Today we are proud to announce that Momentus is one of the participating teams selected for The AFWERX Space Challenge initiative exhibit at EngageSpace, a two-day virtual event on September 29-30.

Momentus and Honeybee Robotics are partnering to demonstrate the feasibility of using autonomous, low-cost, modular robotic arms aboard satellites to perform a variety of useful activities on-orbit. For the first step towards demonstrating this capability, the Momentus-Honeybee team proposes an on-orbit demonstration of the dexterity and autonomous functionality of the Honeybee modular robotic arm system. The system would be launched and hosted aboard a Momentus spacecraft bus, performing several autonomous dexterity tests on orbit. These tests would demonstrate the capability of the system to operate autonomously, interact precisely with targets, and do so without negatively impacting the operations of the Momentus orbit transfer vehicle.

The AFWERX Space Challenge initiative is made up of four challenges targeted at creating integrated space operations leveraging the best in technology while maintaining security, being resilient and increasing agility. Four challenges were run concurrently focused on separate topics – Persistent ISR, DoD Commercial Space Partnerships, Global Space Transport and Delivery and Space Asset Resiliency.

Momentus is happy to be participating in this event helping to accelerate the industry!
